You give me hope, Jim. As we know about each other, I have spent most of my life being hopelessly optimistic; while you, I believe are usually skeptical. Lately, I have become resigned to feeling like the war in Ukraine, blatant Republican racism, autocracies in general, and man's inhumanity to man are never-ending. After reading your essay, my hope stirs again. PS I agree "cretinous lecher" is better. xo Beth
For me, "skeptical" applies more to transcendental issues like the immortality of the soul. As far as our flawed species goes, I prefer to try to cultivate a mix of hope and fatalism to offset an underlying predisposition to pessimism. As I said to Mimi recently, "Fatalism rarely lets you down." Optimism is way above my pay grade.
I can not say how potent this post this is. The razor language is almost dangerous. I like the cretinous lecher and 'spanked, sent to a corner, etc' and could go on. And I like the hope. Thank you.

Thank you. For some reason, "cretinous lecher" sounded better than "lecherous cretin."
